About Greg.
With two decades in education, Greg blends his experiences in education together to form his unique perspective and approach.
Greg spent a decade teaching high school social studies, connecting with students to create meaningful experiences in the classroom. His social studies classroom at Plymouth South High School is where Greg began incorporating technology into his lessons. While the rest of the world was talking about smart boards as the new, must-have technology, Greg was making infrared pens out of dry erase markers so he could adopt the same technology in his class on his existing whiteboard. Greg has had countless students over the years reach out to him to share that they always felt like they mattered in his classroom, which is what was most important to him. As an educator, he lived by his mantra that “students may not remember what you teach them, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”
Greg’s passions for technology eventually led to him expanding his reach beyond the classroom, as he supported schools and districts from Massachusetts to Hawaii - and everywhere in between - for a number of years.
Once the Covid lockdown ended, Greg was approached by a district in the town next-door to fill their role as the Director of Technology. This was a role that Greg had always hoped he would have an an opportunity to take on. That desire, coupled with his wishes to be able to spend more time with his wife and children made this new opportunity a perfect fit.
Greg has served as the Director of Technology for Triton Regional Schools in Byfield, Ma ever since. He has deepened his understanding of the life and world of an administrator, learned how to lead a department, navigate the needs of an entire district and planned for long term sustainability for the district.
At the same time, Greg has been building his own consulting firm, The Kulowiec Group together with his wife Emily. Through TKG Greg is able to continue to support schools through academic technology integration initiatives. This work spans from individual virtual sessions, full day workshops, keynote addresses and year-long partnerships which help schools reshape entire approaches to technology. Greg is known for his patient, approachable delivery of professional learning, and can always find ways to work a joke or two in, as well.
Additionally, Greg partners with educational technology companies and app developers to develop curriculum materials, teacher resources, and professional learning.
He has presented across the country including sessions at Google’s Global Education Summit, ISTE, and NCSS.
Greg’s most treasured accolade was being awarded the Richard Aieta Promising Teacher Award from the Massachusetts Council for the Social Studies in his third year of teaching.
Greg was a Division II athlete, earning a scholarship to St. Anselm College, and was nominated to the the McDonalds all American basketball team in high school. Greg loves spending time with his family, running, DJing, playing wiffleball with his son and teaching his daughter everything he knows about basketball. He loves volunteering in his kids schools whenever possible, from sweeping floors in their preschool after snack time, to being their mystery reader in elementary school.
He resides in Newburyport, Ma with his wife and his two children, 10 and 12, and their dog, Tugboat.
